That's why we have developed SafariKid.
SafariKid is the all-terrain wheelchair designed specifically for children and young people in low-resource settings, inspired by TAI’s SafariSeat wheelchair and its robust suspension mechanism, capable of moving easily across the harsh terrain of rural Africa. Childhood mobility is crucial for physical, emotional, psychosocial, perceptual, and cognitive development. It enables social interactions, recreational activities, and active community participation, which are essential for a happy and fulfilling childhood.
The SafariKid will provide children with mobility disabilities in rural Africa the freedom to move across terrains which are inaccessible to standard wheelchairs, enhancing their ability to engage in social, recreational and educational activities to improve their overall quality of life.
All-terrain mobility: From rural rocky trails and sandy woodland to uneven urban streets and school playgrounds; the SafariKid is designed to navigate all sorts of terrain, allowing children to move freely through various environments and experience the world without limits.
Optimised Adjustability: Featuring a tilt-in-space seat and adjustable seating support components, SafariKid accommodates for growth and changes in postural requirements from ages 2 to 17 years.
Durability and Reliability: Built using the innovative SafariSeat suspension system, with durable easy-to-maintain parts, SafariKid is designed to withstand the challenges of rural low-resource settings, ensuring long-term usability, minimal maintenance, and local repairability.
Child-Centred Design: Designed to meet the requirements and wishes of children and young people, considering a broad range of use scenarios, daily activities and safety requirements.
Promotes childhood development: Empowers kids to engage in daily activities, attend school, and participate in social and cultural events, fostering learning and development.
